Chef Alvin Cailan shows us his version of the Filipino dessert, Halo Halo. His childhood favorite, evocative of hot summers, comfort and family, Alvin’s Halo Halo is as refreshing to look at as it is to eat.

Chef J.T. Vuong ferments his own misozuke tofu, a riff on the “stinky tofu” he grew up eating. A robustly flavorful dish resulting in a texture similar to soft cheese, this food showcases the hand of the artisan and is ultimately paired with seasonal ingredients to become the ultimate summer salad, Shira Ae.

When Chef Cat Castaneda opened Native Fields in Walnut last year, she was committed to community, health, and the importance of the close relationship between the land, the farmer, and the chef. Watch her prepare the visual feast that is her Stone Fruit Salad, as much a pleasure for the tastebuds as it is an homage to the bounty of local farmers.

Esquire's Art House | Hanksy + Adam Lucas

This summer, after years of web friendly street-art fame, Lucas showcased some of his more recent art in a pop-up, titled "29 Paintings I Painted Last Summer When I Tried to Be a Painter". The pop-up represented a new style for the artist.

"I'm a big fan of reinventing yourself," he told Esquire about his creative process, self doubt, and inspiration. "I'm a big fan of endings, new beginnings. That's where I am right now." Watch the full video below.
